Jeremiah’s is a chain. Mount Dora doesn’t care. The location on Donnelly St has a patio, ceiling fans, and a direct line of sight to the playground in Donnelly Park. That makes it Switzerland for parents from June to August.
Italian ice is not ice cream. It’s fruit, sugar, water, and a texture somewhere between snow cone and sorbet. Flavors rotate, but the core 20 stay. Mango, strawberry-lemon, cotton candy for the kids. The “Gelati” layers ice with soft-serve and will ruin your dinner in the best way.
It works because of the physics of Mount Dora summers. 95°F, 80% humidity, brick streets radiating heat. You walk out of a shop at 2pm and the sun hits like a wall. Jeremiah’s is 40 steps away. You get a large, find shade, and remember why people live here.
It’s also the great equalizer. Snowbirds, bikers, bridal parties, and dads in cargo shorts all stand in the same line. Nobody cares who you are when you’re dripping blue raspberry down your arm. The staff gives free samples to kids who can’t decide and extra napkins to everyone.
Local Tip: Go after 7pm during Light Up Mount Dora. The line is shorter, the lights are on, and a scoop of peppermint ice in December feels rebellious in Florida.
