“Mount Dora Word of Mouth” is yard sales and restaurant questions. “Is Tony’s open?” “Who makes the best key lime pie?” 12,000 members.
“Mount Dora Lost and Found Pets” is dogs, cats, and the occasional tortoise. 5,000 members and a 90% reunion rate.
“Mount Dora: What was that siren?” is self-explanatory. 8,000 members, mostly retired, all listening.
Join all three and you’ll know the town in 48 hours. You’ll learn that the siren was a false alarm at the gas station. You’ll see a lost dog found in 20 minutes because someone recognized it from the park. You’ll see a fight about golf carts in the Publix parking lot with 200 comments.
It’s messy, helpful, and very human. Businesses post specials. New people ask for dentist recommendations and get 50 replies. Someone complains about brick streets and 60 people explain why they’re staying. It’s democracy with emojis.
The groups are moderated by volunteers who have the patience of saints. They delete politics and personal attacks. Everything else stays.
Local Tip: Lurk for a week before posting. Search before asking. And if you find a dog, post a photo immediately. The network is faster than animal control.
