Seafood Festival in a Landlocked Town

September in Evans Park. Lake Dora 100 yards away. Zero salt water. Mount Dora’s Seafood Festival leans into the irony and nobody cares.

Lobster rolls, crab cakes, shrimp po’boys, conch fritters. Vendors haul it in from the coasts. You eat it under live oaks while bands play on the stage. Cold beer, lake breeze, live music. The Florida math works.

It started in 2010 as a one-day event. Now it’s a weekend with 40+ food vendors, 20+ arts booths, and 15,000 people. The lake is the backdrop, not the source. That’s the joke and the charm.

Kids have a zone with face painting and bounce houses. Adults have the beer garden. Everyone has a waterfront view. By 2pm Saturday, the lines are long but the band is good and the shade is plentiful.
