The park opened in the 1950s and still feels like it. RV sites under live oaks, tent sites by the water, and 6 rustic cabins with AC and a porch. $30 a night for a tent, $120 for a cabin. Book 11 months out for winter. Snowbirds know.
The lakefront has a fishing pier, pavilions, and a boardwalk through a cypress swamp. At night you hear owls and boats. In the morning you hear roosters from the houses nearby. The park store sells ice, worms, and coffee at 7am.
Mount Dora people use it as a staycation. You’re 10 minutes from home but it feels like you left. Kids ride bikes on the loop road. Adults sit by the water with a book. No one wears shoes. The boat ramp gets busy Saturday but the rest of the park stays calm.
Local Tip: Rent cabin 4. It’s on the point with sunrise and sunset views. Bring a kayak. Paddle the shoreline at dawn and you’ll see deer drinking. Then drive to Mount Dora for dinner. That’s having both.
